FFS Friday

After last weeks absence, the MIL complaints are back again.

We invited the in laws to visit on Sunday. FFS.

I clearly told them to get to our house sometime after 1pm as we would be out in the morning. We got home at 12pm and they were at our house. FFS.

This meant we had to feed them lunch. FFS.

MIL bought down more clothes for bub. FFS.

She bought a whole pile of clothes that won't fit him for at least three years. FFS.

She also bought him two pairs of pink tracksuit pants. FFS.
Now I'm pretty easy going when it comes to gender stuff. Bub has dolls and I never tell him that 'boy's don't do that' etc, however I do draw the line at him wearing pink. I will not dress my boy in pink clothes. FFS

(Unless he decides that he wants to wear pink clothes when he's older. FFS)

MIL has also started bringing down clothes for me. FFS.

Most of them are size 12, I'm a size 8 or 10. FFS.

They are pretty special. There's one thing she bought me I don't even know what it is. Here is a photo of it, if anyone can identify it please let me know. FFS.
UFO (Unidentified Fashion Object)

The in laws stayed for 8 hours! FFS.

Surely there is some sort of law against that. FFS.

As well as the in laws, my Dad, brother, SIL and kids came over, so we had 10 people in our little house. FFS.

I was hoping that once my family arrived the in laws would get the hint and F off but they didn't. FFS.

They stayed so long that I had to feed them tea as well. FFS.

I've been playing a game called Tiny Tower on my phone, it's heaps of fun but quite time consuming. FFS.

I had 103 floors which had taken me about 3 months to get, then on Monday they updated the game and I lost 60 floors. FFS.

Monday night I'm in bed (at 8.30pm) FFS.

I'm nearly asleep when hubby comes in and starts talking to me. FFS.

Thinking it's something important I rouse myself and try to listen. FFS.

You'll never guess what he wanted to talk about...martial arts. FFS.

Yes, he woke me up to talk about martial arts. FFS.

Hubby has started training again. This means that on Tuesday and Thursday evenings he doesn't get home until 7.30pm. FFS.

By the time he gets home I am usually tired and pissed off. FFS.

Invariably he walks in and asks what's for tea. FFS.

He doesn't realise he's taking his life in his hands each time he asks that question. FFS.

Tuesday night he walks in and starts complaining about the training session he'd just had. FFS.

I told him that as he gets time to himself and I don't, he doesn't get to complain about that time. FFS.

MIL was supposed to come and help out Wednesday so that I could meet up with some friends. We arranged it with her a few weeks ago. Monday she tells us that she can't help as she 'might' be having a colonoscopy. FFS.

Either she was or she wasn't, no might about it. FFS.

She would have known about it 2 weeks ago when she agreed to help. FFS.

As far as I know you don't just wake up in the morning and decide you're going to have a colonoscopy that day. FFS.

Thursday morning I'm settling bub at 4.50am. FFS.

I've nearly got him back to sleep when hubby gets up for work, turns on the kitchen light which shines straight into the nursery and wakes up bub. FFS.

Hubby then decides to turn on the light right outside bub's room. FFS.

It's at that point I walk out of the room and tell him to "turn the god damned lights off". FFS.

I finally managed to get bub back to sleep at 6am. FFS.

By that time I was wide awake. FFS.

Bub's always been a good eater but lately he's decided he's not such a fan of food. FFS.

He normally feeds himself however at the moment I have to feed him whilst also distracting him so that he's not aware he's eating. FFS.

He wants to hold the spoon and put it into the food, not to eat, but to throw it all over the place. Food ends up all over both of us, all over the wall and everything that is within 5 metres of his high chair. FFS.

His favourite food is fruit, because he likes to throw it on the floor. FFS.

I think he likes the splat sound it makes when it hits the floor. FFS.

All of the food antics should annoy me but he's just so cute that it's funny. FFS.

I never thought I'd say this, but I really miss going to the toilet on my own. FFS.

Going to the toilet with a toddler is not easy. FFS.

I'm either trying to stop him eating the toilet tissue or stop him putting his hands in the toilet, getting him to let go of my undies whilst trying to flush the toilet or a combination of all three. Fun. FFS

March BellaBox

The March BellaBox is all about natural beauty. Instead of coming in a box it came in a reusable calico bag (that I currently have filled with samples I want to use up).
There were two full sized products (worth well over $15) and three samples.

In my box I received:

Planet Eve Daily Face Moisturiser sample
You Little Beauty Natural Repair Hair Mask
Bellamer Eye Balm sample
Pure Fiji Coconut Hydrating Body Lotion sample
Yes to Carrots Lip Tint
Carmans Muesli Biscuit (this lasted about a minute before I scoffed it down, it was so yummy!)
March BellaBox was provided for consideration.

Tag - Seven Deadly Sins of Make-Up

I saw this tag on the Beauty Soiree blog and decided I'd do it too.

1. GREED
What is your most expensive beauty product?
Bobbi Brown Nude palette. I paid Australian retail price for it which was $110. Ouch.
And what is your most inexpensive beauty product?
Starlet Navy blue eyeliner. I paid $2.95 for it. I always see Starlet makeup at Kmart but never buy it because it looks cheap and nasty, however I thought I'd buy this as an experiment to see what it was like. Surprisingly it's really nice.

2. WRATH
What beauty products do you have a love and hate relationship with?
Highlighters. I love the look of highlighters on other people however I just can't make them work on me. Thankfully one of my lovely friends is going to teach me, so hopefully it'll be a love relationship soon.
And what product has been the hardest to find?
None that I can think of at the moment.

3. GLUTTONY
What are your most delicious beauty products?

At the moment that would be my Savi Wellbeing body lotion and the Body Shop Chocomania range.

4.SLOTH
What beauty product do you neglect due to laziness?

Face masks and nail polish. I try to do face masks regularly but it just doesn't happen. The same goes for nail polish. I love the look of painted nails but just can't be bothered painting my nails every few days.

5. PRIDE
What product gives you most confidence?

If you'd asked me this a year ago I would have said lip gloss or lipstick, but since bub came along I'd have to say concealer and foundation. Lack of sleep means that I have dark under eye circles and I still have some dark spots left from pregnancy. Whilst these don't worry me too much, I do feel better when I have a little foundation and concealer on.

6. LUST
What product makes you feel more attractive?

Red lipstick. Need I say more?

7. ENVY
What beauty item would you most like to receive as a gift?

Tom Ford lipsticks. I swatched these last time I was in the city and found a beautiful dusty pink that funnily enough is called Dusky Pink. I really want it!

Olay Touch of Foundation

You know that moment when you apply a new product and it's love at first application? It doesn't happen very often, but when it does it's amazing. That's what happened the first time I applied Olay's Touch of Foundation.

This feels so lovely on my skin. The feel is hydrating, creamy and luxurious. It has a soft, pretty fragrance that makes me think of flowers. All of these things combine to make it a beautiful product to apply. I don't think I've ever said that about a face moisturiser before, but it's true.
Initially I thought this would be like a tinted moisturiser but it's not. I find it to be more like a Blemish Balm than a tinted moisturiser. Compared to a tinted moisturiser it gives more coverage and is more hydrating. The best way I can think of to describe this is; imagine a hydrating foundation. The coverage is like a sheer to medium foundation, however it is quickly absorbed and blends into my skin so that I don't look like I'm wearing foundation.
As you can see from the photo this comes in a 50ml pump bottle and has an SPF of 15.
I have the fair shade and it's perfect for my NC20 skin. As the colour is quite sheer and blendable I think this would work well for a good range of different skin tones.
You can see in the photo above that it blends in well with my skin tone even when it's not rubbed in.

Will I buy this? Yes, when mine runs out, before mine runs out I'll be buying another one to replace it.

Touch of Foundation costs $14.69 for a 50ml pump bottle.

Ingredients: aqua, glycerin, ethylhexyl salicylate, butyl methoxydibenzoylmethane, dimethicone, titatium dioxide, niacinamide, polyethylene, isopropyl palmitate, octocrylene, phenylbenzimidazole sulfonic acid, aluminum starch octenylsuccinate, tocopheryl acetate, panthenol, dimethiconol, cetearyl glucoside, arachidyl alcohol, behenyl alcohol, benzyl alcohol, cetearyl alcohol, cetyl alcohol, myristyl alcohol, stearyl alcohol, myristic acid, palmitic acid, stearic acid, sorbitan stearate, peg-100 stearate, c13-14 isoparaffin, laureth-7, triethanolamine, polyacrylamide, alumina, ammonium polyacrylate, silica, ethylparaben, methylparaben, propylparaben, parfum, alpha-isomethyl ionone, benzyl salicylate, butylphenyl methylpropional, citronellol, hexyl cinnamal, hydroxyisohexyl 3-cyclohexene carboxaldehyde, limonene, linalool, ci 77491, ci 77492, ci 77499.

FFS Friday

Clearly there is a conspiracy in our house to turn me grey. FFS.

This time it was hubbys turn. FFS.

He decided to call me from the phone in his bosses office. FFS.

Hubby works in a dangerous job, so a phone call from his boss is never going to be good news, it means a very serious injury that has rendered hubby incapable of speech. FFS.

All these thoughts were racing through my head as I answered the phone, only to hear hubbys voice. FFS.

I decided to organise the emails for my blog. I spent ages adding labels and putting things in folders etc. FFS.

A few weeks later and I've discovered that my clever organisation means that email replies and emails from anyone who has ever emailed me in the past, now go straight into their folders, bypassing my inbox, so I don't know when I have a new email. FFS.

This means that I've been ignoring a hell of a lot of people. FFS.

Now I need to spend a day replying to all the emails I've ignored. FFS.

Bub is teething again so has not been sleeping well. FFS.

Early Sunday morning hubby was looking after him when I noticed he'd (bub not hubby) been crying for a while. I went in to make sure everything was okay and hubby was nowhere to be seen. FFS.

Turns out that hubby had decided to leave bub and go sleep in the spare room. FFS.

Would have been nice if he'd let me know. FFS.

Wednesday I got a final demand letter from a debt collector for the Video Ezy bill that hubby paid ages ago. FFS.

They decided to add on a $15 administration fee after we'd paid the bill. FFS.

I rang them and told them that the bill was paid in full before they added the administration fee so they can get stuffed if they think I'm paying $15 just because they can't get their records correct. FFS.

Not sure if the guy understood me cause he was from a call centre in India. FFS.

Think it's time to cancel my Video Ezy membership. Idiots. FFS.

Bob2 now has 9 messages on it that I can't listen too. FFS.

I have had a sore in the tip of each nostril for about six weeks now. FFS.

The end of my nose is so red that I look like Rudolph. FFS.

Every time Mum sees me she has to mention it. FFS.

Last time she saw me she commented on it again and then told me that it's time I healed it up. FFS.

What a bloody brilliant idea, why didn't I think of that. I'll just click my magic fingers and it'll instantly heal. FFS.

MIL hasn't visited this week so I don't have any of her antics to report, however I'll leave you with one of her comments that left a lasting impression.
Every time she comes to our house she helps herself to whatever lollies/chocolate/biscuits we have in the house when she thinks we aren't looking. This particular day she wanted liquorice allsorts. When she couldn't find them she asked me for some and I told her we didn't have any. Actually, I'll quote the conversation to you.
MIL "Can I have some liquorice allsorts please?"
GQ "We don't have any."
MIL "Oh, but I really want some."
GQ "We don't have any."
MIL "But you usually do."
GQ "We don't have any."
MIL "I looked and I couldn't find them."
GQ "We don't have any, we ate them all."
MIL "Oh. Can you just check for me please?"
GQ "No, we don't have any, I know that so there's no point checking."
When she thinks I can't hear she asks hubby for some. He tells her he doesn't think we have any and then asks me if we have any, so I tell him that we don't have any.
MIL then says to me "I've been craving them all week but I didn't buy any because I knew you'd have some so I thought I'd just eat yours."
FFS!!!!!!!

Dear Baby G

Thursday 22 March 2012

Hello. Is anyone out there?

I'm finding parenting to be a very lonely journey. Hubby works six days per week, most days he leaves the house at 5.30am and gets home at 6pm. Two nights per week he goes to martial arts so gets home at 7.30pm and on Saturday he gets home at 4pm. The majority of the time I'm on my own with bub.

We go to playgroup, rhyme time and swimming lessons. I take bub to the park and for walks. All of these things I do on my own. Most days the only contact I have with other people is online and if I go to the shops.

Being a mum is very isolating. Most of my friends (with and without children) work. And those that don't work are busy with their own children. I don't have any family here so it's just me.

There are so many parts of parenthood that people just don't talk about. Like today. It took me half an hour to get bub to sleep. He screamed for 20 minutes until I finally put him on the boob. 26 minutes later and he's crying again. Give me strength.

There are times when I hate being a mum. I don't hate bub and I don't hate looking after him, but there are parts that I hate. Like waking up in the middle of the night and settling him back to sleep. I hate that. I don't use that word very often and it scares me that I can hate some parts of motherhood so much, but I do. It's an ugly truth but it's my truth. I'm sure other people feel this way but no-one ever talks about it. Why not? What's the harm in being honest? It doesn't mean that we love our children any less, it doesn't make us bad parents, it just makes us honest.

Mostly I love being a mum. Chai is the best thing that has happened to me and he's an absolute delight. I can't imagine going to work and having someone else look after him. He's so much fun to be with, he's so curious and interested in everything. But some parts are so not fun. And that's okay.

Nailease

I've mentioned before that I'm really lazy with painting my fingernails. I love the look of painted nails but just can't be bothered with the time and effort that goes into having painted nails.

I've tried one of the stick on nail polishes before and it didn't work at all, however I recently tried the Nailease ones and it's love.

The kit comes with everything you need to put on the nails, even a silver strip to seal the packet so that the second set of polishes stays fresh. The photo above shows the nail file and buffer, cuticle stick and silver sticker to seal the packet. The photo below shows the remaining nails sealed into the packet.
The instructions that come with the nail polish are very comprehensive and easy to follow, I didn't have any problems.
This what the nail polish looks like before the end has been filed off.
And this is what it looks like after it's been filed off.
The full set of nails. Looks great and it only took me five minutes.I get at least seven days wear out of these before the ends start to chip a little.
The nails that I have are Khaki Black Leopard from the Trend Collection. You get twenty polish strips for $11.95. Nailease products can be purchased from their website.

These are definitely a product that I'll purchase. I love the way they look and they are super easy to apply.
This product was provided for consideration.

Glamourflage Lip Balms and giveaway

It's no secret I'm obsessed with lip balm. My latest love is Glamourflage lip balms. If you like vintage beauty products these are the lip balms for you, they come in the cutest retro tins.
I was sent two of the Glamourflage balms to try, Magical Mary which is Honey Peach flavoured and Bella Blaze which is Honey Lemon flavoured. Out of the two Magical Mary is my favourite, I just can't resist peach flavoured products.

These feel like lip butters, very soft and moisturising, they are a real pleasure to apply. They leave a glossy finish that looks like I'm wearing a lip gloss. I've been wearing these over lip liner when I want long lasting colour and can't be bothered reapplying my lipstick all the time. Due to the glossy finish they are also great to use alone (which I've been doing a lot too).

There are six different flavours available: Lotus Lily (Tangerine), Bijou Bec (Raspberry), Magical Mary (Honey Peach) , Mellow May (Chocolate), Daisy Delight (Cherry) and Bella Blaze (Honey Lemon).

Glamourflage lip balms cost $10.95 for a 20ml pot and can be purchased from the Glamourflage website and various stockists around the country. Click here for a list of stockists.
And now for the exciting part. I have one of each of these balms to give away to my readers. To enter all you have to do is follow my blog leave a comment letting me know you want to enter. (Australian residents only). Competition closes 30 April 2012.
These products were sent to me for consideration.
