New Years Resolutions

I'm not usually one for new years resolutions, I don't see the point in waiting until a certain day to make changes, I think it's better to make the changes immediately. Despite that, there are a few things that I've decided I'll do this year.

1. Improve my posture. When I got Crohn's I couldn't stand up straight because my stomach was too sore. Due to that, I started stooping over. I used to have really good posture, but now I hunch forward and don't stand up straight. My stomach isn't sore anymore, it's just a habit and I don't like it. This year I'm going to improve my posture and stand up tall again.

2. Make time for and take care of me. Since bub arrived I haven't had much time to myself. I've been away from him three times, for a total of less than four hours. I don't get any time to myself and I've realised that I need to start taking care of me. I'm going to start doing martial arts again, I've got a gym membership for six months and I'm going to make sure that I get some me time every week, even if it's only an hour.

3. Socialise more. When I got Crohn's our social life took a dive. I lost contact with the majority of my friends as I was too sick to maintain contact and most of them just didn't understand how unwell I was. I'd just started to rebuild my friendships and make new friends when I had bub and my social life took a nosedive again. This year I'm going to make an effort to stay in touch with my friends.  

I read this gorgeous poem on a blog years ago, unfortunately I don't know what blog it was or who wrote the poem, but it sums up what I'd like to say perfectly.

I will let the serene moments wash over me.
I will cherish them.
They soften me.
And the blows of today's tumultous storm will be lessened.
