Laura Mercier Illuminating Tinted Moisturiser

I've wanted to try Laura Mercier's Illuminating Tinted moisturiser for ages, so whilst I was in Kuala Lumpur I picked up a tube. I've heard so many wonderful reviews that I had very high expectations. Unfortunately it doesn't live up to them. The sole reason I say this doesn't live up to my expectations is because of the shimmer. It is so, so shimmery that it just doesn't look natural. Mixed with tinted moisturiser this is perfect, but alone it's too much. If I want to wear this alone I have to put a heap of powder over the top to tone down the shimmer and in my opinion that defeats the purpose of using a tinted moisturiser. To me tinted moisturiser is something I use when I want to do a quick face, so I don't want to have to use lots of powder to stop myself looking like a glitter ball.

I purchased the shade Natural Radiance which is a good match for me. It looks a little dark in the photo above, but once it's blended in it matches well. It is slightly darker than my natural skin but I don't mind that as it gives me a very slight touch of colour.  I think the slight darkness is more to do with the shimmer rather than the colour match.

Laura Mercier says: Lightweight flawless coverage. This light infused, lightweight, gently tinted formula is perfect for all skin types. Laura Mercier's illuminating tinted moistuiser SPF20 hydrates and protects from damaging rays of the sun as it imparts barely there colour, luminous radiance and a dewy finish to your complexion.

I tried to get a good photo of the shimmer but couldn't. In the photo above you can see it a little bit but in real life it's way more shimmery and just not a good look.

As far as the moisturiser goes, it's great and I would definitely consider trying other Laura Mercier tinted moisturisers. It's hydrating and yet light. I don't think this would be hydrating enough to use alone during winter, but for summer it's perfect.

Would I buy this again? No, it's way too shimmery.

  1. Bummer about the shimmer hey, it's one of those TMs you hear so many folk rave about :)

  2. I looove this product, but I do find the same problem. To overcome this, everyday I mix it with foundation and it's perfect. Also, if I'm feeling really lazy and not wearing any makeup, I'll just put a little on my t-zone and cheekbones!
    P.S. I love your blog!

  3. I am yet to try Laura mercier products. I really want to try the foundation.

This product sounds good, but the shimmer would be a problem. Maybe mixing it with a moisturiser might help.

  4. I haven't tried it by itself but I don't think I'd like it like that either! I really like just a little of it mixed in with my foundation, or dabbed on cheekbones, cupids bow etc as a highlighter. The fact that it's labelled 'tinted moisturiser' I find very interesting as I can't imagine using it that way!

  7. You should try the Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer in the oil free version. I use the shade "porcelain". I use it nearly every day on it's own or mixed with a foundation
